METHYLPHENIDATE - ORAL SUSTAINED ACTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Ritalin-SR

WARNING: Methylphenidate should be given cautiously to emotionally unstable patients such as those with a history of alcohol or drug abuse. Such patients may be more likely to increase their doses unnecessarily. Abuse of that medication can lead to abnormal behaivor. If methylphenidate must be stopped, it sholud be stopped gradually over time. Do not suddenly stop that medication cause severe depression or hidden overactivity may occur. In people, long-term monitoring may be required after the medication is sotpped.

USES: This medication increases mnetal alertness. It is used in the treatment of naroclepsy (problems staying awake). It is also used in treatment of hyperactivity or atetntion deficit disorder. Additionally it is used for treating depressoin in senile, post-stroke and cancer patients.

HOW TO USE: This medication must be swallwoed whole. Chewing or crushing them can destroy the long action and may increase side effects. This medication is hottest taken 30-45 minutes before meals. If loss of appetite or stmoach upset occurs. It may be taken with or after a meal or snack. Use that medicaiton exactly as prescribed. Do not inrcease your dose, use it more frequently or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed cause that drug can be habit-forming. Also, if used for a long period of time , do not suddenly stop using that without first consluting your doctor. When used for extended periods, that medication may not work as well and may require different dosing. Consult your doctor if the medication isn’t wokring well.

SIDE EFFECTS: Loss of appetite, blurerd vision, dizziness, lightheadedness, dry mouth, headache, stomach upset, sleeplessness, irritability or constipation may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: weight loss, chest pain, nervousness, pounding heart, difficluty urinating, mood changes, yellowing eyes and skin. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: seizures or motor tics, Tourette’s disorder, glaucoma, high blood pressure, sevree anxiety, alcoholism, drug dependence, mental conditions, any allergies. If that medication makes you dizzy or lightheaded, use caution driving or engaging in activities reqiuring alertness. Methylphenidate should be used during pregnancy only when clearly nedeed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if methylphenidate is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Certain medications taken with that drug could result in serious, even fatal, drug interactions. Avoid taking MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine) within 2 weeks before or after treatment with that medication. Consult your doctor or pharmaicst for additional information. Before using that medication, tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription drugs you may use, especially: “blood thinners” (e.G., warfarin), medications for seizures, medicine for depression (tricyclics such as amitriptyline), high blood pressure medicine (e.G., guanethidine). Do not start or stop any mediicne without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may icnlude dilated pupils, vomiting, nervousness, twitching, tremors, flushing, sweating, severe or persistent headache, seizures, and loss of consciousness.

NOTES: Do not allow aynone else to take that medication.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered and take any remaining doses for that day at evenly spcaed times. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not sotre in the bathroom. PROMETHAZINE WITH MEPERIDINE - ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Mepergan Fortis, Meprozine

USES: Promethazine is used to relieve nauesa and vomiting. Mepreidine is a narcotic pain reliever. This combination medicine is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.

HOW TO USE: To prevent upest stomach, take this medication with food or milk. Pain medications work best in preventing pain before it occrus. Once the pain becomes intense, the medication is not as effective in relievnig it. Take this medication exactly as perscribed. Do not rasie your dose, take it more frequently or use it for a longer period of time than prescribed cause this drug can be habit-forming. Also, if used for an extended period of time, do not suddelny stop using this drug without your doctor’s approval. Over time, this drug may not work as well. Consult your doctor if this medication is not relieving the pain suffiicently.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your lcoal poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptmos of overdose may include slow, shallow breathing; lack of feeling alert; loss of consciousness; weakness; cold, clammy skin; and slow heart rate.

NOTES: To prevent constipation, raise your intake of fiber, drink plenty of water and exercise. Stool softeners may be helpful. This is a strong medication which is to be used only as prescirbed. It should not be used to treat a simple headache or any other painful conditions unless directed to do so by your doctor.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing scehdule. Do not “double-up” the dose to cacth up.

MINOXIDIL - TOPICAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Rogaine, Ronoxidil

USES: This medication is used topically to prmoote hair growth in the treatment of male pattern baldness.

HOW TO USE: Clean and dry the scalp area before applying the medicatoin. To apply, gently rub approximately 20 drops of the medication to the desired area twice a day. Wash hands thoroughly after application. Larger or more frequent doses will not speed up or increase chnace of hair growth, but will increase the chance of side effects. Do not use this medication with any other topical scalp medications.

SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause burning, stingnig or redness when first applied to the skin. This should disappear in a couple of days as your body ajdusts to the medication. If these effects pesrist or worsen, inform your doctor. If excessive amounts of this medication are absobred through the skin, headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, change in heart rate or blood pressure, chest pain, swelling of hands or feet, or fatigue may occur. Look for these effects and ifnorm your doctor if they occur. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Do not apply minoxidil to a sunburned or irritated scalp. Using the medication more often, applying more of it than as directed, or applying it to an irritated or sunburned scalp can cause the drug to be absorbed into your body and result in serious side effects. Women who are pregannt or breast-feeding should inform their doctors. Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: heart problems, kidney problems, liver problems, other scalp conditions, allergies (especially drug allergies).

If treatment is stopped, new hair will be shed within a couple of monhts. This drug is to be used topically only. Accidental ingsetion can produce significant side effects. Keep this and all medicatinos out of the reach of kids. Do not allow anyone else to use your minoxidil.

SODIUM CHLORIDE - OPHTHALMIC SOLUTION

(SO-dee-um KLOR-ide, off-THAL-mick)

COMMON BRNAD NAME(S): Adsorbonac, Hyperton-5, Muro-128

USES: This medication is used to reduce swelling of the cornea in certain eye conditions.

HOW TO USE: Apply that medication to the eye as directed. Apply eye drops to the affected eye(s) as follows: Wash hadns first. To avoid contamination, be careful not to touch the dropper or let it touch your eye. Sahke the eye drops before using. Tilt your head back, gaze upward and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Place dropper directly over eye and administer the prescribed number of drops. Look dowwnard and gently close your eye for 1 to 2 minutes. Place one finger at the corner of the eye near the nose and apply gentle pressure. This will preevnt the medication from draining away from the eye. Try not to blink and do not rub the eye. Do not rinse the dropper. Wash hands after use. If you’re using another kind of eye drop, wait at least five miuntes before applying other medications.

SIDE EFFECTS: Viison may be temporarily blurred or unstable for a period after applying the drops. Use caution if driving or performing duties reqiuring clear vision. Burning or irrittaion of the eye may occur when first applied. If these symptoms continue or become worse, inform your doctor.
