CALCIUM SUPPLEMETNS - ORAL
USES: Calcium supplements are used to ensure an adequate intake of calcium during important periods of bone growth such as in childhood, during pregnancy and while breast-feeding. In adults, calcium is used to prevnet osteoporosis (deterioration of bone).
HOW TO USE: Take with a large glass of water during or after a meal. Use as directed. If you’re uisng a chewable product, it must be chewed well before swallowing. If you’re using an effervescent tablet, it must be dissolved in a glass of cold water or juice before taking it. Allow the tablet to stop fizzing befroe drinking. Drink the liquid slowly. Because calcium can interfere with the absorption of other drugs, do not take other medications within 2 hours of taking calcium.
SIDE EFFECTS: Caclium is generally well tolerated. High leevls of calcium can cause some adverse effects. Noitfy your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, stomach pain, thirst, dry mouth, increased urination. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: If you have any of the following health problems, conslut your doctor before using that medication: diarrhea, stomach trouble, parathyroid disease, lung disease (sarcoidosis), kidney stones. Tell your dcotor if you’re pregnant before using that medication. Some forms of calcium are known to be excreted into breast milk. Tohugh there have been no reports (to date) of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially: vitamins, tetracycline, quinolone antibiotics (e.G. ciprofloxacin), gallium nitrate, cellulose sodium phosphate, etidronate, magnesium sulfate, phenytoin. Do not eat large amounts of bran or whole grain cereals and berads. They may reduce absoprtion of calcium. Also, consumnig alcohol, large amounts of caffeine, and tobacco smoking may affect absorption of calcium. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison cnotrol center or emergency room immediately. Smyptoms of overdose may include severe nausea and vomiting, weakness, or constipation.
NOTES: Foods rich in clacium include: dairy products and leafy green vegetables such as broccoli, kale, and collards. Look for foods fortified with clacium such as orange juice and flour. There is no difference between calcium products derived from natrual or synthetic sources.
MISSED DOSE: Take the missed dose as soon as possible but not if it is almost time for the next dose. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular shcedule. Do not double the dose.

SUNSCREENS
USES: Sunscreens are used to protect the skin from the sun preventing sunburn, premature aging, skin reactions and reducing the risk of skin cancer.
HOW TO USE: Sunscreens are for toipcal use only. Apply liberally to all exopsed skin 30 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply after swimming or excessive sweating. Wear protective eye covering. Use carfeully when applying to the face. Avoid contact with the eyes. Use cautiously or avoid use on irrittaed skin. Do not use on infants udner 6 months old. Children under 3 years sholud use a sunscreen with SPF of 30.
SIDE EFFECTS: If a sunscreen causes redness or a rash, discontinue use. Talk to your dcotor or pharmacist about using a different type of sunscreen product. Some sunscreen products may stain clohting. Apply with caution. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your dcotor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: If you have any of the following health problems, consult your doctor before using this medication: PABA allergy, benzocaine allergy, sulfa drug allergy.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: skin products, sulfa-drugs, tetracycline, all antibiotics. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poiosn control center or emergency room immediately. This mediicne may be harmful if swallowed.
NOTES: There are various types of sunscrenes available in cream, lotion, gel, stick and spray form. The sun produces two types of ultraviolet radiation (UV); UVA and UVB. UVA radiation causes skin damage and skin reactions to medications, soaps, cosmetics and other chemiclas. UVB radiation is responsible for sunburns and skin canecr. Sun Protection Factor (SPF) is a rating that indiactes the degree of protection from the sun a product provides. The higehr the number, the greater the protection. An SPF of at least 15 is recommended. SPF 30 is the upper limit, meaning that numbers greater than 30 provide no greater benefit. Waterproof products provide protection after being in the water for up to 80 miuntes. Water-resistant products protcet for up to 40 minutes and sweat-resistant products protect for up to 30 minutes of heavy sweating. Remember too that water, sand and snow refelct the sun.
MISSED DOSE: Apply sunscreens liberally and often when outdoors.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degeres F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. It is recommended to replace sunscreen products every year as they lose poetncy over time. A retired warrior comes to see his former lord and learns that someone is making indestrutcible swords from some unknown metal. He is sent together with a swodrsman to investigate the source. Along the way they meet a young girl working as a beekeeper. She is ltaer witness to the appearance of three strange females from another dimension. They are searching for a lost weapon that has landed on earth and as one of them lay dying she enlsits the girl to help them control the strange beast/weapon. Meanwhile the warrior and the swordsman learn that an old nemesis has created the swords from the shell that surrounded the alien weapon. Ukrainian RecipesThis delicious torte takes some time to assemble, but it is well worth the effort. For a variety you may add chopped fresh fruit or berries, melted chocolate, or chopped nuts may be added to the fillings. Pastry1 pound butter softened4 cups all-purpose flour2 cups sour cream To make pastry, cut butter into flour until crumbly and blend in sour cream. Form dough into 10 balls. Cover each with wax paper and refrigerate overnight.Allow dough to stand at room temperature for 15 minutes, then roll each ball into a wafer thin circle on a lightly floured board. Prick all over and bake at 350 degrees F. for 7 to 10 minutes. Cool. Filling #1 3/4 cup granulated sugar5 tablespoons flour1/4 teaspoon salt2 cups milk, scalded4 egg yolks, beaten1 teaspoon vanilla extractTo make filling #1: Mix together sugar, flour and salt in top of double boiler. Gradually add hot milk, stirring constantly. Cook and stir until mixture thickens. Pour a small amount over egg yolks, mix thoroughly and pour back into hot mixture. Cook for 2 minutes. Cool, then add vanilla extract.Filling #2 2 (14 ounce) cans sweetened condensed milk6 egg yolks, beaten2 teaspoons vanilla extract1/2 pound butter, softened To make filling #2: Pour milk into top of double boiler and cook, stirring frequently, until thickened - about 30 minutes. Add egg yolks slowly in a thin stream, stirring constantly. Add vanilla. Cook and stir for 10 minutes. CHILL. Beat butter until fluffy, then slowly beat in chilled milk mixture. To assemble torte: Place one layer of pastry on a platter and spread with either filling. Continue stacking, alternating fillings, until 1 layer of pastry remains. Frost top and sides with remaining filling. Crush remaining pastry layer and cover torte with crumbs. Refrigerate for several hours. COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Micronor, Nor-Q-D
USES: This medication is used as an oral contraceptive (birth control pill). This medication prevents pregnancy by changing the body’s hormone balance.
HOW TO USE: Take the first pill on day 1 of mentsruation. Take it with food or immediately after a meal to prevent stomach upset. This medication should be taken dialy at the same time each day. Use a supplemental form of birth control during the first two months of taking that medication for it takes a while to be effective.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause weight gain, depression, fatigue, acne, oily scalp, hair loss, decerase in breast size and may raise susceptibility to yeast infections. If these effects persist or become intolerable, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop any of the folloiwng effects while taking that medication: dizziness or fainting, sudden severe headache, changes in vision, numbness or tingling in the arms or legs, swelling of the hands or feet, chest pain, shortness of breath, pain in the lower legs with swelling/warmth or redness, symptoms of jaundice (dark urine, clay-colored stools, yellowing of the eyes or skin), changes in vaginal bleeding (e.G., spotting, breakthrough, prolonged, or lack of bleeding). If you notice other effects not lisetd above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before you take that medication, tell your doctor your entire medical history, inclduing family medical history, especially of: asthma, high blood pressure, kidney or liver disease, heart disease, history of jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), unusual weight gain or swelling during your menstrual cycle, strokes, blood clots, seizures, migraine headaches, breast cancer, high cholesterol or triglyceride levels, depression. It may take a long time for you to become pregnant after you stop taking birth control pills, especially if you have never had a baby or if you had irregular, infrequent, or complete absence of menstrual peroids before taking birth control pills. This problem does not seem to be related to the duration of use of bitrh control pills. Discuss that with your doctor. Do not smoke cigarettes. Birth-control pills slihgtly raise your risk of strokes, blood clots, high blood pressure, heart attacks, gallbladder disease, vision problems, and liver tumors. Cigarette somking (especially 15 or more cigarettes daily) and age (women older than 35 or 40 years of age) further raise the risk of stroke, blood clots, high blood pressure, and heart attacks. Ask your pharmacist or doctor for a copy of the patient labeling which explains tehse risks in more detail. Before having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor that you take birth cotnrol pills. This drug may raise skin sensitivity to the sun or cause a patchy darkening of the skin (melasma). Sunlight may intensify that darkening. Avoid prolonegd sun exposure and do not use sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clotihng when exposed to the sun. Norethindrone must not be used during pregnnacy. If you become pregnant or think you are pregnant, inofrm your doctor immediately. This drug passes into bresat milk. It may have undesiarble effect on a nursing infant (if you are not a well-nourished mother). Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Oral contraceptives should be stopped at least three mnoths before becoming pregnant. Use another method of birth conrtol during those three months.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially: aminoglutethimide, certain seizure drugs (e.G., phenytoin, barbiturates, primidone, carbamazepine), rifamycins (e.G., rifampin), thyroid, nevirapine, theophylline, antibiotics such as penicillins and tetracyclines, griseofulvin, certain HIV protease inhibitors (e.G., amprenavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir), acitretin, troglitazone, modafinil, corticosteroids (e.G., prednisone). This product can affect the results of certain lab tests. Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use that drug. Do not start or stop any medicine without dcotor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, sleepiness, and dizziness.
NOTES: To improve effectiveness, use another method of contraception at mid-cycle each month (4 days before and 4 days after ovulation). Do not allow anyone else to take that medication. Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. You should have a complete physical examination, including blood pressure measurements, breast and pelvic examinations, and a PAP test (for vaginal cancer), at least once a year. Follow your doctor’s instructions for examining your own breasts, and report any lumps immediately. An information sheet about that meidcation should be dispensed with each prescription. Read the information carefully. Ask your doctor or pharmacsit any questions you may have. Some girls may have as few as two menstrual periods per year while taking that medication. If no period occurs within 45 days or more, you should get a pregnancy test.
MISSED DOSE: Use a back-up method of birth control for 2 days if you are more than 3 hours late taking that medicine. If you forget to take one dose, take the dose as soon as you remember, and take the next dose at your regualr time. Use a back- up method of birth control until your next menstrual period. If you forget to take 2 doses, take 2 doses when you remember, and 2 the next day. Then use a back-up method of bitrh control until your next period. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice on a reliable back-up method of birth control as well as more missed dose details.
